AN OTTOMAN GOLD DAMASCENED STEEL CALLIGRAPHER'S SCISSORS, 20TH CENTURY. -
A pair of Ottoman calligrapher's scissors, likely 19th century, constructed from steel with gold damascened decoration. The item features long, tapering blades and ornate handles with openwork and scalloped, circular finger loops. One face of the scissors is decorated with gold koftgari work, depicting floral and foliate scrollwork that extends from the loops down the length of the blades. The reverse face of the lower blade is plain steel. The two halves are joined by a central pivot.
