WW2 - A rare completely inert and safe German SD2 Butterfly Bomb casing (Sprengbombe Dickwandig SD2) and the original museum label it was displayed with together with an original bomb disposal / ARP training poster showing details of a Butterfly Bomb marked "Secret", and dated 29/10/1940, measuring approx 21cm wide x 31cm high. This is a rare surviving example of an SD2 Butterfly Bomb anti-personnel sub-munition dropped by the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. It was acquired from a museum near Chard that closed around 20 years ago where it had been displayed since being donated by a local man who had served as a bomb disposal expert in London during the blitz and later in the war became an instructor in bomb disposal techniques. The original museum label is included which clearly states that this bomb is quite safe as the explosive mechanism has been replaced with concrete. This item is empty, inert, completely safe and legal to own in the UK.
