FRENCH SILVER FISH SLICE, PARIS, CIRCA 1860
Marks: struck with the Minerva head (1st standard French silver mark) and maker’s lozenge and later stamped with a French swan control mark for imported silver. The shaped silver blade is finely pierced and engraved with a fish amid scrolling foliate borders, echoing its use in the fish course. The handle is of turned dark wood (likely ebony), ending in a rounded finial. Length: 34 cm (13½ in). Weight: approximately 130–150 g (gross).
