Justaclickago is a railway auction site that specialises mainly in railway photographs, slides and negatives. Railway enthusiast Simon Stewart bought the company from its founder, Tony Hoskins, in June 2019. Since then, the auction has moved to its current on-line presence and Simon plans to hold 4 auctions a year.
Simon looks through every collection before he catalogues it. This means he can scan a representative cross section of images. It also means he can present a clear description of the lots’ contents.
The live, timed auctions run over 7 days so people have plenty time to place bids. Entries sometimes come from the established customer base. However, some unique and extremely interesting collections have appeared, rescued as it were from the skip. ‘People don’t always realise the value of collections.’ Simon reflected. ‘There are some exceptional amateur railway photographers out there who have captured atmospheric, historic or unique moments in time. Enthusiasts are keen to buy these and lively bidding has seen high prices.’
Simon enjoys looking through these collections. ‘It can be really interesting,’ he explained.’ I can be going through something and there, buried away, are negatives of steam engines in Russia or perhaps photographs from a long-forgotten branch line. Customers have a pretty wide area of specialised interest and so it is always good to find something that I know will tick someone’s box.’
