James Coy (fl. 1769-1780) was born in Dublin and commenced his artistic career at The Dublin Society’s School. He was tutored by the landscape painters Robert Carver (fl. 1750-1791) and George Mullins (fl. 1763-1775). He painted landscape views in Co. Wicklow and around Westport, where he worked for Lord Altamont. He exhibited eleven paintings at the Society of Artists in Ireland between 1769 and 1774.
