A folding wooden chess set and storage box featuring intricate geometric marquetry and parquetry inlay on the exterior, characteristic of Syrian craftsmanship. The decorative exterior displays complex star and diamond motifs incorporating multi-coloured wood and bone or mother-of-pearl inlays. The interior opens to reveal a black and white chequered game board flanked by two red felt-lined storage compartments. The set includes an assortment of turned and carved wooden chess pieces in natural and black-stained finishes.
