A Cambridge University silver rowing cup - campana form with upper band of fruiting vine decoration and lower band engraved with the university's coat of arms and surrounding inscriptions; William Bateman, London 1828;  18.7 cm high, 413 g.
Engraved inscriptions: 'May 1855 Magdalene Silver Pair Oars & University Presentation Cup' to '1. J. Wright - St. John's Coll. 1855' and '2. H. Blake - Corpus Christi Coll.'
(Henry Blake (1833-1914) and John Wright rowed for Cambridge in the 1854 (12th) Boat Race as No.7 and stroke. The 1855 Boat Race was cancelled due to the Thames and Cam freezing over, but the crews faced each other at the Henley Regatta, where Blake rowed as No. 6. Wright was not part of Cambridge's crew, but did represent Cambridge in the Diamond Skulls and the Steward's Challenge Cup for four-oared boats.)
