Van Voorst, 1846, orig. cloth gilt; [by John Leonard Knapp]: 'The Journal of a Naturalist', L, Murray, 1829, 2nd edition, engraved vignette title + 11 leaves of engraved plates (comprising 7 plates, of which 4 double page, and 1 hand coloured), contemp. half calf gilt (worn); plus 22 others, of which 9 by Richard Jefferies, including 'The Gamekeeper at Home', 1878, 1st edition, etc. From the collection of Andrew Pierssené (1929-2025), author, Professor of Environmental Interpretation, and life-long naturalist and book collector. Born in Rugby, and following his graduation from Oxford in 1953 with a Masters degree in English Language and Literature, Andrew was involved in youth work in London, founding the OK club, a charity which is still running. After moving to Norwich in 1964, he became Chairman for the Council for Nature Youth Committee, as well as founding Norfolk Young Naturalists. Throughout his life Andrew amassed an extensive collection of Ornithology and Natural History books, and had a particular skill for acquiring and identifying signed and association copies of various works. He authored the 1998 book ‘Explaining Our World: An Approach to the Art of Environmental Interpretation’, and with his vast knowledge contributed articles for a variety of wildlife, local history and natural history magazines and publications.
