Japanese Sword – An early Shinto katana by Bungo Takada Yukimitsu!
A katana signed Bungo Takada no ju Fujiwara Yukimitsu circa Kanbun (1661). The blade with a stunning gunome midare hamon and clear itame jihada. Yukimitsu is a highly regarded swordsmith referenced in the Shinto Taikan, Art and the Sword, Nihonto Koza, Zukan Tomei Soran and Fujishiro with the oshigata from Fujishiro
reproduced below. The authenticity of the signature is confirmed by an accompanying Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (NBTHK) paper dated 26 August 2019. The koshirae is likely late Edo period and comprises Mino fuchi kashira in shakudo and gold featuring autumn insects, cricket, mantis and grasshopper together with shakudo and gold menuki depicting plantain and an iron sukashi tsuba with gold detail. 67cm blade length, 100 cm total length.
