Inc. 1915 Returned Postal Packet env. to an Indian P.O.W. in Germany, with "Returned Postal Packet" crossed out showing that the letter should be forwarded along with a label explaining that letters to P.O.W.s must be addressed in ink; 30 Oct. 1914 env. to "Bagdad [sic]" franked KGVI 2½d tied by machine cancel, with green censor tape over top edge and purple "Stopped by Censor" hs on front and "No communication between/India & the country of/destination." label on reverse all applied at Karachi, sent to the dead letter office in Bombay with square boxed "D.L.O./BOMBAY" hs's on reverse and boxed "REEXPEDIE" hs applied on front, finally returning to GB where unusual purple boxed "UNDELIVERED FOR REASON STATED/TO BE RETURNED TO SENDER/AT THE ADDRESS SHOWN ON COVER" hs applied; 5 Sept 1918 env. ex Streatham with censor "5211" tape applied at top, and poor purple boxed "UNDELIV[ERABLE FOR REASON] STATED/RETURN TO SENDER" & blue "RETURNED TO SENDER/BY THE CENSOR" label over address, with enclosed memorandum explaining the regulations on correspondence to enemy or occupied countries; plus similar examples.
