A PAIR OF SILVER-TONED MELON-FORM SCENT BOTTLES, INDIA, 19TH CENTURY

This pair of matching vessels is designed as small scent or snuff bottles. Each bottle features a compressed, globular body with deep vertical ribbing, creating a melon-like form. The construction includes a short, plain cylindrical neck and a domed lid decorated with radiating chased lines. Each lid is secured to the shoulder of the bottle by a simple link chain. The bottles rest on a short, plain circular foot. The metal exhibits a heavy dark patina and iridescent oxidation, characteristic of aged silver or a silver-toned alloy.
