(Bevan Funnel, founded in 1945 by Barry and Pamela Funnell, started as a small business in a garage and quickly grew into a successful manufacturer of fine furniture. The company began exporting furniture to Holland and later to Belgium and South Africa. By 1947, they had moved to new premises in Newhaven, where they established a mill, machine shop, cabinet shop, and polishing department. Bevan Funnel quickly became known for its high-quality reproduction furniture, inspired by 18th and 19th-century Georgian styles. The company's success was recognized with the Queen's Award for Industry in 1976 and the Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade in 2011.
