A very fine and similar pair of 19th century Meissen porcelain Bacchanalian figure groups: Silenus mounted on a donkey, supported by Bacchus and with a seated maiden with woven basket of grapes feeding the donkey and at the rear a cherubic-style figure tormenting the beast of burden; each on Rococo-style gilded base decorated in relief with C-scrolls; painted blue crossed swords mark and various incised marks to undersides. (Some minor damage and losses) (Each approx. 19cm wide x 22cm high)
Condition Report: Generally in good condition but not without minor problems to the extremities on both pieces :
1st figure (identified with the 'part lot' label) the front male figure has a small piece of the thumb missing, a small piece of the donkey's tail away at the end, a small matchhead sized piece if hair missing on the cherub (opposite the donkey's tail), the basket with grapes has both handles now away, the donkey's right-hand ear has been away and has been re-glued badly, minor pieces away from the vine leaves around the donkey's neck, the flower being offered up has a broken parallel to the lower lip/jaw, minor pieces away to the grapes inside the woven wicker basket, minor pieces away (mostly leaves) to the two fruiting vine wreaths worn by the male figures, a firing crack to the front neck of standing male figure (approx. 1cm), a little finger is away from the seated figure upon the donkey, the underside appears good with only very minor rim fritting around the edge at the bottom of the piece before the gilded C-scrolls.
2nd figure (identified with the Lot 1 label) the donkey's tail is missing, the little finger of the cherub holding the donkey's tail is missing, the right-hand ear of the donkey is chipped (approx. 3/4mm), both handles of the woven basket are away, the food within the donkey's mouth is chipped to the ends, pieces are away from the vine leaves on the wreaths on the male figures, the left-hand of the seated female have two finger tips are just away, turning the piece over the underside looks good, note the two blue crossed swords mark has a score across it the rest of the items appears in generally good overall condition.
