This compact and charming Arabic manuscript is a poetic exploration of grammar and eloquence, composed by the scholar Masher al-Sheikh and completed in 1004 AH / 1595 CE. Written in verse form, the text delivers linguistic rules and rhetorical insights in the style of didactic poetry, a popular pedagogical method in pre-modern Islamic education.
The manuscript is preserved in a binding of marbled paper covers with red leather spine and corners. The pages, inscribed in black ink with rubrication in red, are carefully ruled, with clear evidence of careful usage and marginalia. Diacritical marks and red dot verse stops indicate a work crafted for oral reading or scholarly recitation.
The scribeÕs opening flourish appears in an elaborate triangular layout at the colophon, confirming the date and authorship. The text is divided into thematic chapters, each introduced by a bold red header.
