Hein Heckroth (German, 1901-1970) Devonshire landscape inscribed Devonshire for Elsa, 14 Sept 1938 Hein Heckroth watercolour on buff paper 48 x 74cm. After being 'blacklisted' by the Nazis in 1935, stage designer and artist Hein Heckroth settled in Devon, taking up the post of Director at Dartington Art Studio, Dartington Hall, which had become a refuge for artists fleeing occupied Europe. The present watercolour dates from his time in Britain.
