Star Lot : An incredible antique 19th century original oil on canvas painting showing courtly figures on a stroll through the woods, some take a seat while fanning themselves while others take a closer look at some wildflowers to the right hand side. Rendered in a traditional 18th century style with minute brushstrokes and highly contrasting areas of light and shade. This piece has been previously conserved and the canvas strengthened. Unsigned, but likely by a well trained hand. Evidence from the partial inscription to verso along with the style suggests this is may be a work by the artist Narcisse Virgilio Diaz de la Pena (b.1807-d.1806). A fascinating piece. Diaz de la Pena has a strong auction history with signed works fetching into the mid thousands.
