Provenance: private collection, purchased from the above sale 1947.
N.B. An existing portrait of the same sitter is identified as Caterina Vannini (1571–1644) in the museum of the Contrada della Tartuca in Siena, which is a late copy dated 1775. which is believed to be based on an original work by Paolo Veronese.
Lord Mildmay of Flete was a notable British collector who owned several significant works. Many of the paintings were housed at the family's estate, before being dispersed through major auctions in the mid 20th Century.
