A GROUP OF ISLAMIC BRONZE KHORASAN OIL LAMPS, IRAN, 12TH-13TH CENTURY
The group includes various forms including footed, lidded, and slipper-shaped reservoirs. One lamp features a bulbous body on a flared gadrooned pedestal base with a long elongated spout and a vertical handle topped with a cast bird-form finial. Another lamp consists of a shallow bowl on a conical pedestal foot with incised circular medallions on the flanks containing scrollwork. A third lamp is decorated with incised rinceau or scrolling vine and leaf patterns on a reservoir supported by a notched pedestal foot. The final lamp is a slipper-shaped vessel with a loop handle and an incised circular mark on the rear flank containing worn script.
