£900
A long pair of George III English provincial silver and steel scissors, one arm engraved with a crest, Prince and Cattles [incuse mark], York, 1805, length 22.3cm approx Note: the scissors are struck also with 'E' in a rectangular punch, perhaps a workman's mark [this mark noted by Martin Gubbins, 'York Assay Office & Silversmiths 1776-1858', p. 32, in the years 1800-06]. This pair of scissors is presumably one of the two pairs of large scissors sent for assay by Prince and Cattles on July 16th 1805 [see Michael Baggott's Transcription of the York Assay Office Ledger 1805-1821, privately published 2010.
