Squadron Leader Gleave commanded No 253 Squadron from 2 June 1940, at RAF Kirton - in - Lindsey. Shot down and grievously burned, August 31st 1940 whilst defending RAF Biggin Hill, Commanded RAF Manston October 5th 1941 to April 13th 1942. Chief Guinea Pig. Certified copy no 718 of 1450.
