AN OMANI GUN BARREL OF UNUSUAL FLUTED FORM. A 117 cm long gun barrel of a type known as Abu Fitilia (Father of the Match). The barrel flared towards the muzzle with a gilt sight and fluted decoration, similar decoration and beading to the other end with some remains of the action. 122 cm. "This is one four barrels found in Wales in the late nineteen eighties, highly decorative and still retaining some remnants of their former glory. The only reference to fluted barrels so far found is in The Arms and Armour of Arabia by Robert Elgood page 38 and 39. The rear sight is mounted just above the lower decoration on the breach fluting that is also a feature of the Omani matchlocks, in this instant the barrel at some time has been converted to the percussion mode of firing".
Some marking and scuffing, a nice example. Collection number.
