£12,000
A 19th century trio of diamond brooches converting to a tiara, hair combs and /or pendants, the three graduated brooches designed as stars set with central large old cut diamond in white metal cut down setting edge, radiating out into six rays with further diamond set detail, set in yellow metal to reverse with pendant and screw fitting, accompanied with a yellow metal tiara frame and three (one associated gold coloured) yellow metal hair pins/combs with en tremblant fittings, brooches within fitted case, one brooch numbered '1568' largest 4cm wide, total diamond weight estimated 8ct (at fault)
Please note, one of the brooches doesn't fit onto the frame or hair comb, as the screw mechanism won't thread. However it does have a working brooch mechanism - mechanism will require attention in order for all three brooches to be worn as a tiara.
General surface scratches/scuffs seen throughout, commensurate with age and wear.
Unfortunately we cannot recommend anywhere for the screw fitting to be rectified.
Doesn't appear to be any diamonds missing.
We cannot comment of whether all the diamonds are original, however they all appear to be well matched.
1 brooch = 3.7cm wide (associated mechanism which doesn't fit to frame)
2 brooch = 4.1cm wide
3 brooch = 3.5cm wide (numbered 1568)
Hair combs -
One is associated, and doesn't appear to be yellow metal
Frame -
Slightly mishappen (see images)
Tests in the '10k' area of the KEE gold tester.
3rd tiara fittings has fabric wrapped around (see images)
General surface scratches/scuffs seen, commensurate with age and wear.
Lacking the elastic/fabric to thread between terminals in order to be worn.
Brooch 1 -
Diamonds all present, well matched in colour, bright and lively.
Settings show wear to some areas.
Tarnishing/discolouration to metal, particularly to the pendant bale
Detachable brooch mechanism is later, doesn't curve to the brooch as the others do.
Brooch mechanism in working order and attaches well.
Brooch 2 -
Diamonds all present, well matched in colour, bright and lively.
Settings show wear to some areas.
Tarnishing/discolouration to metal, particularly to the pendant bale
Detachable brooch mechanism doesn't appear to be later in our opinion, as the thumb piece is of the same design as the thumbpieces to the frame.
In working order and attaches well.
Brooch 3 -
Diamonds all present, well matched in colour, bright and lively.
Settings show wear to some areas.
Tarnishing/discolouration to metal, particularly to the pendant bale
Detachable brooch mechanism may possibly be later, but appears to be well done, in our opinion.
In working order and attaches well.
Box -
Shows signs of loss/wear to the corners and edges throughout.
Wear to interior of box where the diamonds have been pressed up against it.
Closes firmly.
