AN EXCELLENT QUALITY CIVIL WAR GOLD SASH BUCKLE, Lady’s sash buckle, highly decorated throughout with engraved scrollwork and US motifs. Lady Liberty and Lady justice flank the centre of the buckle, to the top is an eagle holding a ‘Union’ banner, Union flag to base, all surrounded by foliate scrollwork. Complete with attachment tines. These buckles were created for women in the Civil war era wishing to publicly signal their support for the Union cause. No visible gold mark, which can be seen in other examples from this period. Dimensions: 6.5cm x 4.3cm wide. Weight: 22.37g approx.
