A rare antique photographic magic lantern glass slide depicting William Ewart Gladstone (served 4 times as Prime Minister of the UK) beside a felled tree at Hawarden castle, shown with his wife and attendance within the estate grounds. The image corresponds with a known photograph by Samuel E. Paulton recorded by the National Portrait Gallery depicting gladstones well known enthusiasm for tree felling at Hawarden. Housed within its original hand bound paper mount, the slide being a late 19th century photographic glass positive transparency of standard lantern slide form.
