A GLOBE DE MARIEE, French 19th century, the ivy leaf stamped gilt metal wirework frame centred by a white metal bird holding a wreath and flanked by a pair of oval bevelled mirrors surmounting the claret velvet oval cushion, topped with a bridal crown of faux flowers encircling a wax baby (4 1/2" long), supported on a wirework quatrefoil base with two further mirrors, 17" high, under a glass dome on ebonised oval base, 19 1/2" high overall (Est. plus 24% premium inc. VAT) NB These globes became popular in mid 19th century France, and was a display for married couples of their wedding souvenirs. Here, the oval mirrors indicate gifts from the bridesmaids, the bird with wreath the building of the home, but the presence of pansies (remembrance) may be an indication that their baby died and is a memorial
