WWII SUSPENDED SERVICES: 1939-45 selection of covers all ex GB inc. 7 Jan. 1941 env. to Yugoslavia, sent via the "Horseshoe" route via South Africa to Egypt where it was opened and resealed by Egyptian censor tape and had square purple "62/POSTAL CENSOR" cachet applied, with purple "SALVED FROM THE SEA" hs and purple boxed "NO SERVICE/RETURN TO SENDER" hs's; 5 June 1940 OHMS env. to Egypt held in France in one of 199 bags of mail until the end of the war, with boxed purple "DETAINED IN FRANCE/DURING GERMAN/OCCUPATION" & and "UNDELIVERED FOR REASON STATED/RETURN TO SENDER" hs's on front and reverse ms showing that the env. was finally returned in 1945; 19 Apr. 1945 POW Air Mail env. to Stalag 383 with octagonal red "[crown]/PASSED/P.W. 5928" censor cachet and red "SERVICE/SUSPENDE" & boxed red "UNDELIVERED FOR REASON STATED/RETURN TO SENDER" hs's on front; plus other similar examples.
