A BRONZE MAMLUK MAGIC TALISMANIC BOWL, EGYPT OR SYRIA, 15TH - 16TH CENTURY

The entire surface is densely decorated with incised and engraved ornamentation. The interior contains concentric registers of Arabic calligraphy in both bold Thuluth and compact Naskh scripts. These inscriptions typically consist of Quranic verses, prayers, or talismanic formulas. The central roundel displays an interlaced geometric pattern. The exterior base is centered by a hexagram, often identified as the Seal of Solomon, which contains further calligraphic characters. The style of the calligraphy and the overall decorative program are characteristic of Mamluk metalwork from Egypt or Syria.
