Killed in Action at the battle of Isandhlwana. A South Africa Medal 1877-1879 with 1879 clasp to: 181 Private James Plunkett – 1st 24th Foot, who was killed in action at the battle of Isandhlwana on 22 January 1879 (181 Pte J. Plunkett I/1 24th Foot), together with a 24th Foot helmet plate.

Born 1854, the son of James Plunkett , born in Galway Ireland 1831 who resided in Lancashire England and was married to Mary Plunkett who had four children, one of which was James Plunkett who fought in the Zulu War 1877 / 79 in South Africa. James Plunkett enlisted at Burley Lancashire on the 13/05/1874 age 20 years and was killed at the battle of Isandlwana on the 22/01/1879. His cousin George John Plunkett fought in the 1899/1903 Boer War and was present in the battle of Spionkop, his son Reginald (Jack) Plunkett also fought in this war and was present in the Defence of Ladysmith at Wagon Hill.

Sold with a Copy of Regiment Roll, Copy of Medal Roll , KIA Isandlwana and a Copy of his enrolment in the 24th Regiment of foot.
