Antique Style Mahogany Drop-Leaf Serving Trolley or Tea Cart

More Information

This is a single drop-leaf serving trolley, commonly referred to as a tea or bar cart, constructed from dark hardwood, likely mahogany. The design is influenced by traditional revival styles, such as Victorian or Chippendale, popular in the early 20th century. The cart features a two-tier structure, comprising a lower storage shelf and a top section with two hinged drop-leaves that expand to form an oval surface when fully opened. The top deck is fitted with an inset, removable serving tray, which includes small wooden handles and is protected by a fitted glass cover. The wooden surfaces are decorated with fine inlaid stringing, executed in a dashed or dotted pattern, visible along the edges of the top surface, drop-leaves, and the removable tray. Mobility is provided by two large, multi-spoked wheels at the rear and two smaller casters at the front. A fixed wooden handle, which can also serve as a towel rail, is located across the front end.
