A RARE IRON-RED DECORATED 'DRAGON' BOWL

PROVENANCE: An English private collection, acquired by the owners Father and thence by decent.
NOTE:
the present bowl is striking for its rare combination of fiercely painted dragons in iron-red enamels on a withe ground bowl. Yongzheng bowls of this type are exceptionally rare, and only a few related examples.
A similar Yongzheng mark and period bowl decorated with in-red dragon but on yellow ground. It was illustrated in Chinese Porcelain in the S.C. Ko Tianminlou Collection, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1987, cat. no. 102; another similar one was included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition Iron in the Fire, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 1988, cat. no. 80.
A similar Yongzheng mark and period bowl decorated with iron-red dragon but on yellow ground was sold in the Sotheby's Hong Kong, 12th October 2021, lot 25.
The most related examples of a pair of Yongzheng mark and period iron dragon bowl it was sold in Anderson & Garland auction, 28/11/2024, lot 874 for £250,000 hammer price.
Provenance : The bowl has come from a Private English Collection. It was acquired by the owners father who was a collector of many things, including Asian Art. The family saw the pair sold by Anderson & Garland in Newcastle and contracted to a friend. (Asian Art Specialist) who advised them to have the bowl professionally restored before entering with us for auction. The side has some professionally restored breaks, visible under hight power light (see images). Some typical light surface scratches nto the interior
