A 1920s Royal wedding sari and shoes. We are informed by the vendor that this was worn at the marriage of the Maharaja Sir Bhupinder Singh of Patalia to his favourite wife. The lined silk bodice and sari are richly decorated in gold and silver metal wire and sequins intertwined with green beads, the shoes are ornately embroidered. Overall size of sari: 90cm wide, 340cm total length.
Provenance: We are informed by the vendor that they believe the sari was worn for the Maharaja's wedding. Then by gift from the Maharani to her friend, the vendor's mother. The vendor's mother lived in the Royal Palace of Patalia until the outbreak of WWII.
