An Indian Miniature Painting Depicting the Death of a King with Attendants and Courtiers, 20th Century.

An Indian miniature painting rendered in opaque watercolour on paper, portraying a solemn royal scene. At the centre, a king lies recumbent upon a raised bier draped in patterned red textiles, his hands gently folded across his chest. The surrounding ground is richly coloured in deep red, framed by a bold border that enhances the intensity of the composition.

To the left stands an armed court official or high-ranking military officer, dressed in armour and a plumed helmet, holding a bow. Opposite him are two crowned figures in brightly coloured garments, one depicted with blue skin, both standing in gestures of reverence and lamentation. Their expressions and postures convey mourning and respect for the deceased ruler.
