A LATE 17TH CENTURY SOUTH INDIAN CHILANUM DAGGER. The 28 cm pointed gently curved blade with a central spine and twin fullers. The blade mounted on a decorative support with conical guard and narrow grip with a central knop, and similar conical pommel and knop. The grip with a slender pierced knuckle guard. 42 cm. "Robert Elgood in his work on Hindu Arms describes this weapon as being in use in Vijayanagara in the 16th and early 17th centuries, it is also associated with the Deccan region.".
Slight loss to rims of guard, light marking and surface wear to blade. Collection number.
