1976 Triumph Stag, 2997cc. Registration number RNV 675R. VIN number LD42110A. Engine number LF042247HEA.
Sold with the V5C, keys, MOT until July 2026, 76,498 miles from new, large history folder.
The Stag began life as a Triumph 2000-based styling exercise by Italian Giovanni Michelotti. A 2+2 convertible, the design featured a quad-lamp grille and sculpted front and rear ends, the latter destined to appear on many future Triumphs. By the time production commenced in 1970, the 2000’s six-cylinder engine had been replaced by a 3-litre V8 based on an overhead-camshaft four - later to power the Dolomite range - already being produced by Triumph for SAAB. A padded, ‘T’-shaped roll bar bracing the door pillars and windscreen was one of the Stag’s most distinctive features, and the model could be had in soft-top, hardtop, or soft-with-hardtop forms. Motor Sport described the Stag’s interior as, ‘well appointed, having all the usual instrumentation one would expect in a high performance car.’
RNV has an extensive history starting with the original service book, sold by Wadhams of Northampton to Pamela Smith on the 1st of December 1976, there are 5 stamps in the book up to 11,891 miles in 1978. In 1985 at 49,777 miles she had the engine rebuilt including honing the cylinders and new pistons.
Receipts on file show R.J. Favron as the owner in 1990, followed by I. Atherton who bought it from Motorhouse in Harrogate for £5,695 with a mileage of 65,000 in 2003. In 2004 R. Howcroft purchased multiple engine parts including a timing and head gaskets. Next up was David Briscoe, in 2006, who had a recon radiator fitted and bought wing repair panels, he also had the Heritage Certificate issued.
Our vendor bought it in 2019 when the mileage was 75,578, the odometer now shows 76,498, so he has only added less than 1,000 miles in 6 years. He has had it serviced regularly by The Motorist in Sherburn in Elmet. He is now selling due an eye condition means he cannot drive any more.
There are MOT's from 1982 onwards to confirm the mileage.
When driven to the saleroom the car performed well but it has stale petrol in it and the system need cleaning through.
