19th Century Victorian 18ct gold, banded agate and diamond H initial mourning locket. The locket having a large banded agate cabochon set to the front with silver topped H initial set with round cut diamonds. Engraved dedication to the interior reads 'Excelsior, October 13th, 1866' with photograph of gentleman. The locket commemorates Henry Arkwright who came from an important English family and was killed by an avalanche on Mount Blanc where his body remained undiscovered for 31 years. His death made national news and the family has had a number of books written on them. Measures 4.6cm. Tests indicate 18ct gold.
