(Ukiyo-e.) Utagawa Kunisada (Japanese, 1786-1865). ‘Sono Sugata Yukari no Utsudhi-e [Magic Lantern Slides of that Romantic Purple Figure]’. An Album of 27 Japanese colour woodblock prints. Each print oban size (over a double page) measures 25cm high by 36.4cm wide. From a set of 54 prints relating to the parody novel ‘Nise Murasakiinaka Genji’ [‘Fake Murasaki and a Rustic Genji’] by Tanehiko (1828-42) and its sequel ‘Sono Yukari Hina no Omokage’ [‘A Related Rustic Visage’] (1847-64). Prints in unusually fine condition. Contemporary pictorial paper covered boards gilt, cloth spine. The prints/leaves not stab bound, but tipped/glued to spine at reverse of folds, no puncture marks to prints
