A SPANISH CARVED MARBLE WATER SPOUT IN THE FORM OF A LION, 11TH-13TH CENTURY

A Spanish carved marble water spout in the form of a lion, dating to the 11th-13th century. This impressive piece features a lion with a robust body, its head carved with simple yet expressive details. The spout emerges from the lion’s open mouth, a design commonly associated with medieval Islamic art, particularly from Al-Andalus. The sides of the lion’s body are intricately adorned with floral and geometric carvings.
