A RARE SOUTH INDIAN KERALA BRONZE GAJA LAKSHMI OIL LAMP, 17TH CENTURY
Indian bronze oil lamp from Kerala features the revered Gaja Lakshmi motif, a symbol of prosperity, wealth. Casted in bronze, the lamp showcases the goddess Lakshmi seated serenely at the centre with elephants flanking her on both sides, ceremonially pouring water, which is a signature representation of Gaja Lakshmi. Intricate floral and foliate patterns embellish the backplate, while two smaller attendant figures stand gracefully on each side. The base is deeply tiered and pierced with decorative patterns, supporting a multi-spouted oil reservoir adorned with lotus bud finials.
