Four assorted 19th Century manuscript and printed volumes, including a manuscript arithmetic exercise book circa 1828, containing approx. 55 pages of manuscript long division, addition, conversions/sums involving weights in pounds and ounces, money in farthings, groats, crowns etc, plus approx. 5 pages of m/s cookery and domestic receipts, remedies etc, including rice custards, 'to increase the growth of hair", "to clean silver", "to make cold cream", cough syrups, ointments, sting of a wasp "wet the part stung and put a piece of indigo or olive oil upon it which will remove the pain, another good remedy for the sting of wasps or bees is to apply the the affected part common salt moistened with a little water. Salt will not only kill a wasp but at the same time heal the sting also the rubbing of the part stung with a slice of onion", receipt for cooking "Middle cut of cod", boiled eels, tooth powder, calfs feet jelly, etc etc, plus several pages at end of m/s prayer, ponderings, divine questions etc, contemporary full vellum very worn (24 x 20cm); together with an 1833 manuscript journal of school exercises, 113 m/s numbered pages of entries, album begins "The object of the following journal, is, to preserve a specimen of the various daily exercises, gone through at the Academy, kept by Mr Greenwood, Petersfield, Hants.
