An important and interesting group of four early 20th Century Srinagar Kashmir Lacquer (Papier Mache) photograph albums with contents of photographs from British India pre Independence and the same family in the United Kingdom. The covers hand decorated and lacquered with detailed images of birds & foliage. Exquisite workmanship and transcribed on the inner covers "Made by Ganemede, Srinigar, Kashmir, India". The photographs include aircraft for transporting the family to Gilgit, north of Kashmir and of historic flights in 1932 across the Himalayas. Also photographs of the family in India and United Kingdom. The fronts of the albums have papers transcribed with details of the photographs, for example “Arrival at Gilgit: I think father must have gone on this historic flight, otherwise why all the photographs?”
The flights in 1932 were a significant early example of aerial transport in India as they accomplished in a couple of hours what would have previously taken two weeks by land. Many very similar photographs were published in British Magazines at the time for example the Illustrated London News.
