Neat sized vintage etching of an Irish graveyard, 'Gateways' with an image of Christ on the cross. Signed by the artist M.K. Hughes (1877-1918), dated 1905. Hughes has lots of Auction history and examples of her work hang in the British Museum.
Born in Ireland, the daughter of Sir Frederick Hughes, Wexford, Myra Hughes studied at Westminster School of Art and at the Royal College of Art where she learned the techniques of etching and engraving. She was elected an associate of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers and Engravers in 1911, and exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon.
