1929 INSURRECTION - SERVICE SUSPENDED COVER & POSTAL NOTICE: During the 1929 general insurrection known as the Revolt of the Bache Saquo (Son of the Water Carrier), the Bolan Pass between Kandahar & Chaman (India) was closed, resulting in no secure mail route between India & Afghanistan for the duration of the fighting. The commercial cover from Kendal, Cumbria to Kabul is franked by a 2 Sep. 1929 wavy line ½d meter mark and has had a violet, single line "Service Suspended" h/s applied at Bombay. Rare thus. Lot also includes an official Postal Notice dated 3 Oct. 1929 notifying Suspension of mail. (2 items)
