World War One Original Silver Military Medal and British War Medal awarded to 84028 Corporal James Hillbeck 67th Field Company Royal Engineers. Awarded for action above and beyond the call of duty at Poelcapelle on October 1917 as confirmed in the war diary for the 67th Field Company which confirms awarding him the Ribbon. The silver medals were originally sold as scrap when silver reached an all time high in 1920. But maybe the jeweller had a change of heart as they were never smelted. The 2 bronze medals are unnamed replacements to complete the display. There is lots of research including a copy of the War Diary on a USB memory stick that comes with the medals.
