Star Lot: A wonderful 'Tom Nisbet RHA (1909-2001)' watercolour on paper painting titled 'Mespil Road, from Wilton Place (Grand Canal)' dated 1975. Features a serene Irish street scene. Rendered in soft, naturalistic hues with layered greens, warm earthy browns while touches of golden ochre and muted sienna hint at dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy. Portrays fluid, broad, diluted washes creating gentle transitions. Signed lower left. Housed in a wooden frame behind glass.

Tom Nisbet is a well known artist with works sold at Whyte's.
Tom Nisbet was born in Belfast in 1909. He moved to Dublin at an early age and attended the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art (now NCAD) where he met Sean Keating and Maurice McGonigal. He started exhibiting with the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1935 of which he became a full member in 1962 and opened the Grafton Gallery in Harry Street in 1944 for young and upcoming artists to showcase their works. Nisbet predominantly worked with watercolour, depicting his affection for Dublin and its surroundings.
