Pair of Compton Pottery Style Garden Planters

A striking and highly decorative pair of large terracotta garden planters in the manner of the celebrated Compton Pottery workshops, each of generous circular form with deeply moulded Art Nouveau inspired scroll and wave decoration. Raised on integral pedestal feet, the planters display a wonderfully timeworn surface with rich natural weathering, lichen growth and earthy patination that only decades of outdoor exposure can produce.

Included with the lot are reference pages from Mary Seton Watts and the Compton Pottery, illustrating closely related examples and providing useful historical context to this distinctive artistic movement. The bold organic design and sculptural quality of the planters embody the Arts and Crafts spirit associated with the Surrey based Compton Pottery tradition, making them particularly desirable as statement architectural garden pieces.

An impressive and atmospheric pair, ideal for formal planting schemes, entranceways or period garden settings.

Condition: Extensive age-related weathering and surface wear throughout. Visible cracks, old repairs, losses and frost damage present, consistent with prolonged outdoor use. One planter with more significant cracking to the rim and body. Sold as decorative garden pieces.

Dimensions: Approx. 45cm high, 56cm diameter.
