Attributed to Field Marshal Colin Campbell, 1st Baron Clyde, GCB, KSI (1792-1863) - A View in India, inscribed and titled to verso, watercolour and pencil, 8.5 x 24cm
After serving in the Peninsular War, Campbell had a successful career in the British Army, with commands in the First Opium War, the Second Anglo-Sikh War, at the Battles of Alma and Balaclava during the Crimean War, culminating with his appointment as Commander-in-Chief, India, during the Indian Mutiny in which he lead the relief of Lucknow. Whilst still Commander-in-Chief he dealt with the 'White Mutiny' among East India Company troops, and organised the army sent east in the Second Opium War.
