Frederick Hall (British 1860-1948) Driving Geese Down a Village Lane signed and dated 'Fred Hall 1919' (lower right) oil on canvas 51 x 61 cm, framed 62.5 x 72.5 cm The canvas has not been lined. There are several areas of loss as can be seen in the catalogue illustration, including two areas of loss, lower centre, that have been touched up.The painting is dirty and will benefit from a clean. There is a 16cm vertical scratch visible upper right. Areas of thicker paint in the sky and cottage walls appear raised. Scattered craquelure is visible throughout. There is a bloom to the varnish in the darker areas on the left of the composition and also some abrasion to the surface, far left. UV light reveals scattered small areas of retouching throughout.
