Monro, Alexander; A Description of all the Bursae Mucosae of the Human Body, their Structure Explained, and Compared with that of the Capsular Ligaments of the Joints, and of those Sacs which line the Cavities of the Thorax and Abdomen. Edinburgh, 1788. Folio, complete with 10 plates, mostly folding and 60 pages of text. A very good copy in a contemporary half calf binding with morocco label on upper cover. Split on upper joint but holding firm. A few old library stamps (Royal College of Surgeons Ireland) on the front end paper, title page, and a few text pages and on verso of one plate. Some staining to the upper margin on a few pages, and closed tears to the margins, some loss to the rear end paper. Despite the faults noted still a very good solid copy in a contemporary binding with all the striking life sized plates clean and unmarked. "The first serious study of this subject and most original anatomical work by the greatest of the Monro dynasty" (Garrison-Morton). Alexander Monro was professor of medicine and anatomy at Edinburgh University from 1758 until his death in 1817.
