Billy & Charley fantasy brass pilgrim badge d.82 x 110mm. William (Billy) Smith and Charles (Charley) Eaton were two illiterate mudlarks from Shadwell, London, who sold their finds to antique dealers in the mid 19th Century. They began forging medieval artefacts with naive inscriptions, which lead to a court case, but they were never convicted. This item along with a genuine lead 'Boy Bishop' token d.26mm.
