18TH-CENTURY LOUIS XVI STYLE SILVER FOUR-PIECE TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE
Dutch hallmarks.
Comprising a coffee pot, teapot, covered sugar bowl and cream jug, each of baluster form and raised on scrolling feet, richly decorated in the neoclassical taste with cast and chased laurel swags, ribbon bowknots and oval portrait medallions depicting a classical male profile. The covers surmounted by pinecone finials, the teapot and coffeepot fitted with shaped ebony handles.
Each piece fully marked to the underside with Dutch guild hallmarks, including the crowned lion rampant standard mark for Holland (.934 fine silver), together with crowned letter assay marks, indicating manufacture under the Dutch guild system in the late 18th century. No inscriptions.
